New River Auto Mall

Get It All!

New River Auto Mall
It all began in 2002...

The New River Auto Mall is a group of eight automobile dealerships in Hardeeville, S.C. Established in 2002, it all began with a Letter of Intent from Infiniti, which granted Don Mealey the Infiniti franchise, provided he found suitable land. Mr. Mealey had spent his career as the owner of several car dealerships in Orlando, Fla., and was looking for a new opportunity.

Infiniti & Nissan came first...

Mr. Mealey spent more than a year scouting sites to locate the Infiniti brand. Along the way, he discovered that the Nissan dealership in Beaufort could be purchased, and received permission from Nissan (Infiniti’s parent company) to relocate the franchise from Beaufort to the Hilton Head area. He purchased the Nissan Car Mart on Aug.1, 2001, and operated the business there for about a year.

With two franchises "in hand," Mr. Mealey began to look for larger parcels of land, and met the owners of much of the land along Highway 278, including the land where Super Wal-Mart is now located. Mr. Mealey convinced the owners that the Auto Mall concept was an appropriate use for the land, and an agreement was reached. He purchased land for Infiniti and Nissan, and opened both during the last quarter of 2002.

Mazda, Porsche and others followed...

Mr. Mealey and his investors were awarded the Mazda franchise in 2003, and built the facilities to its corporate design for opening in 2004. Following suit, Porsche had its official opening in first quarter of 2005.

Other dealers became interested in the Mall, and land was sold to the Jaguar Dealer from Charleston for the Jaguar Dealership. Mr. Mealey purchased the Jaguar dealership about 18 months after it opened.

Land was sold to another dealer for the Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and Hyundai dealerships in 2003. Mr. Mealey then purchased those dealerships in August of 2006. Land Rover Hilton Head was added to the mix in April of 2007. The Land Rover dealership is currently located on S.C. 170, and will integrate into the Auto Mall in the next year or so.

Potential for more dealerships...

During the period of development, he negotiated for the purchase of the remaining land in the immediate vicinity, and now controls all 42 acres, including the 10+ plus acres currently undeveloped west of the Highway 278 entrance. There is space for two or three more franchises, depending on volume potential.
The ownership of all land, buildings and business is shared by Don Mealey, Warner Peacock, Ken Griffey, Jr., and/or affiliated entities.

The goal is to complete the New River Auto Mall within the next two years, by securing one or more of the remaining brands not currently represented in the area. If this proves to not be possible, some or all of the remaining land will be developed for other commercial use.

Much has been accomplished during the last five years, with a great deal of time, money and energy spent on securing the franchises and building facilities. We're now prepared to maximize potential for all the dealerships.

Over-the-top customer service, integrity in how we conduct business, and quality products are the pillars of our organization, and we strive for excellence each day.
